Make history come alive for students with hands-on exhibits, multi-media encounters, colourful stories, huge steam locomotives and massive industrial machinery. The story of rail goes hand in hand with the history of people and places, significant events and inventions, industry and innovation.

Explore more than 15 larger-than-life exhibits that follow the development of rail transportation in Queensland.
Highlights include the diesel and tilt train simulators, model railway and the Museum's collection of rolling stock and historical technology.

Your visit experience may include:

  • a seasonal program such as National Science Week.
    Our 2018 Program STEM Stations offered free activities for Years 2- 6. Subscribe to Learning eNews for seasonal events.
  • a staff-led, Curriculum linked learning program (available Term 1, 2019)
  • a self-guided exploration. Free resources such as trails and worksheets are available for download.
  • a tour of Queensland Rail's heritage workshops (led by QR volunteers who have worked in the industry).

Entry is free for Queensland schools during school hours.
Non-Queensland school students visiting as part of a school group, or school visits outside Queensland schools hours are admitted at a discount price $9 per student.

We offer free entry for Supervising Adults as per the following ratios:

  • 1 adult per 5 Prep students
  • 1 adult per 10 primary school students (Years 1 – 6)
  • 1 adult per 15 secondary school students (Years 7 – 12)
  • 1 adult per 1 student with special needs

Bus drivers may enter free of charge.

FREE entry is available for Queensland teachers all year so that you may familiarise yourself with the Museum for any future school excursions. To redeem your free admission, just show your teacher ID and sign-up to our Education ENews on arrival. Entry prices apply for family members and accompanying guests.
