Thomas & Friends make a SPLASH this summer!

04 December 2012

With beach umbrella, sunscreen and beach ball in tow, the world’s most popular steam engine is ready for all the fun of Australia’s biggest Thomas & Friends event, Day out with Thomas 2013 from 26 December 2012 to 3 February 2013.

This year’s By the seaside themed event sees Thomas and his friends Edward, Donald, Douglas, plus Annie & Clarabel bringing a little bit of the English summer with them on their post-Christmas holidays.

The Fat Controller is also looking forward to seeing the sunny Queensland smiles of Thomas fans, and recommends they bring a beach towel and a change of clothes to enjoy the special water and sand play zone.

Director of The Workshops Rail Museum Andrew Moritz said the Museum is gearing up for a busy school holiday period with a number of activities planned to keep little engineers busy.

“Visitors are encouraged to dive into all the fun with seaside performances by The Fat Controller which will bring to life the popular seashore and dockside Thomas the Tank Engine adventures.

“Buckets and spades will also be at the ready for children to build sandcastle creations while the Thomas PlayPit will offer endless hours of track building and train testing in air-conditioned comfort.”

Little visitors can make a splash with water wheels and bubble wands before letting their creative juices flow at the Thomas Imagination Station with Thomas puzzles, stories, games and craft.

Big and little visitors alike can see Queensland’s version of Sodor Island’s Tidmouth sheds by taking a tour of the active railway Workshops and view firsthand the restoration and maintenance of powerful steam locomotives (because it’s a real Workshop, enclosed footwear is required for a tour).

The Workshops Rail Museum, celebrating 10 years this year, is winner of Australian and Queensland Tourism Awards, and is part of the Queensland Museum network celebrating 150 years in 2012.
