New exhibitions set to delight at The Workshops Rail Museum

04 October 2017

Two new stunning photographic displays produced by the Queensland Museum Network have opened for a limited time at The Workshops Rail Museum in Ipswich.

Great Barrier Reef and This is my Heritage have both delighted visitors at Queensland Museum in Brisbane and Cobb+Co Museum in Toowoomba and are now on display to educate and inspire visitors at The Workshops Rail Museum.

Queensland Museum Network Acting CEO, Dr Jim Thompson said it was a pleasure to see exhibitions produced by Queensland Museum tour throughout the state, giving new audiences the opportunity to see them.

“Great Barrier Reef features 20 stunning images of the reef and its inhabitants. The images were captured by award-winning Queensland Museum photographer Gary Cranitch over a four-year period in which he logged more than 500 reef dives,” Dr Thompson said.

“The images featured in the exhibition are highlights from The Great Barrier Reef book published by Queensland Museum that features more than 1000 full colour images and illustrations curated by Queensland Museum scientists.”

Visitors also have the opportunity to see the special exhibition This is my Heritage, which explores the profound connection objects have to family, country and culture through the personal memories and experiences of 12 Indigenous artists and educators.

“This exhibition was developed in collaboration with the Department of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships, and reveals the surprising connections and spiritual links created when people engage with the Museum’s collections.”

Both exhibitions are now on display at The Workshops Rail Museum. Great Barrier Reef will run until 5 November 2017 and This is my Heritage until 21 January 2018. Both are included with Museum entry.
