Wheels in motion for fun filled 2013 program

17 December 2012

The Workshops Rail Museum is gearing up for a busy 2013 with steam train excursions, new activities and the return of school holiday favourites.

Following Day out with Thomas 2013 – By the seaside finishing in early February, the new regular public talk series Railway Reminiscences, designed for those interested in railway history, starts on 13 February through to December.

In autumn, visitors can meet a furry friend at Outback Easter as the Museum introduces The Workshops Bilby and Toyland Express returns for the Easter school holiday period.

Parents will banish school holiday boredom with the wonderfully whimsical winter event Wizards Express with little visitors letting their imagination run wild with the Starlight Labyrinth and the Fantastic Forest.

Director of The Workshops Rail Museum Andrew Moritz said the team is enthusiastic about the new events including the Railway Reminiscences series.

“We’re looking forward to presenting our diverse 2013 program and excited to be offering a regular event geared around railway history in our new talk series,” Mr Moritz said.

“Visitors can also enjoy the fresh air of the Museum grounds with both the Bush Picnic and Teddy Bears Picnic events designed to give visitors a different weekend family outing,” Mr Moritz said.

The Annual Workers Reunion will continue to be a key community event for Ipswich in August and provide an opportunity for past and present railway workers to catch-up with old mates.

The hands-on construction Build it! event headlines the spring school holiday ahead of the annual Queensland Model Railway Show in late October.

“The ever popular Steam Train Sunday will also return with one hour Brisbane steam train excursions throughout the year for a unique heritage experience,” Mr Moritz said.

The Workshops Rail Museum, part of the Queensland Museum Network, is winner of Australian & Queensland Tourism Awards.
