Brisbane’s moving heritage experience Steam Train Sunday returns

15 February 2016

Back by popular demand, The Workshops Rail Museum’s Steam Train Sunday returns to the track from 6 March until December for one-hour trips through Brisbane in heritage style.

Now in its seventh year, the steam train ride isn’t running out of puff, with more trips available than ever before, departing and returning to Roma Street station at 10.15am and 11.40am on selected Sundays.

Queensland Museum Network CEO Professor Suzanne Miller said Steam Train Sunday is history that moves.

“The beauty of Steam Train Sunday is that you’re experiencing the sights, sounds and smells of heritage transport.

“It’s the same with so many of the locomotives and carriages in our collection at The Workshops Rail Museum - they transport you back in time with their magnificent detail and the wonderful stories that go with them.

“Last year we had a huge number of passengers come aboard for our steam train Sundays, and there’s something quite lovely in an old world joy like this being appreciated in a modern city,” Prof. Miller said.

Passengers are free to move between the carriages, take in the sights from the petite balconies, and relax with the gentle sway of the age of steam.
