Join in and explore more than 150 years of rail history at the Museum.

Entry is free for Ipswich residents on Museum Open Day

*Proof of Ipswich residency is required and may include drivers licence or rates notice. Admission charges apply for non-Ipswich residents. Free admission for Annual Pass holders.

Exclusive to Museum Open Day

Hear The Workshops Whistle blown, take a rare look inside the historic Powerhouse, take the self-guided tour of the Heritage Railway Workshops where the Queensland Rail Heritage Fleet is housed (enclosed footwear required) and experience the Museum's wild side with the Wild Rangers Wildlife Encounters show and meet a Queensland Museum Expert for taxidermy talks and demonstrations.

Remembrance Day Ceremony

At 10:30 am a Remembrance Day service will be held at The Workshops War Memorial. Visitors are encouraged to attend and observe one minute of silence at 11 am.

Stay for lunch or dinner

Enjoy a meal at the Museum cafe, grab food to go from one of the onsite food trucks or bring a picnic - the Museum grounds are yours to enjoy!

Open until 8 pm

For the evening adventurers, the Museum is open until 8 pm with live music and bar!

All Museum exhibitions are open 9:30 am to 8 pm. Don't miss the Museum's collection of genuine locomotives, big machinery, model railway and kids adventure playground.
