Centenary of Armistice

On 11 November 1918, fighting in World War I came to an end following the signing of an armistice between the Allies and Germany that called for a ceasefire effective at 11am. It was on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month - 100 years ago.

Following the Remembrance Day service visitors may take part in commemorating the centenary of the end of the World War I.

Order of Service:

11:45am - Ipswich Thistle Pipe Band performance

12:00pm - Commemoration service commences

12:05pm - Town Crier announces that peace has been declared

12:15pm - Reading of the Proclamation that the War is over

12:45pm - Explanation of symbolism and release of pigeons

1:00pm - Commemoration service concludes

The service is coordinated by Ipswich Railway RSL Sub Branch.
