Three Foot Six, The Sunlander

Queensland photographer Glen O’Malley has a passion for trains and carries early memories of trips from Brisbane to Townsville on the Sunlander.

Three Foot Six (Queensland's track gauge) is a display of 45 documentary black and white photographs that capture the stories and unique character of Queensland’s train culture.

The photographs were taken during several excursions and many were taken on the Sunshine Route. In 2003 Glen drove from Cairns to Brisbane photographing trains, then travelled back in the Sunlander, which will ceases operations in 2014.

The display also includes images of the first Tilt train from Cairns and the Gulflander, which runs between Normanton and Croydon, the only Queensland rail tracks not joined to the rest.
